“Fire On The River” is a sizzling Musical of spectacular proportions based as it is on The Great Fire of London 1666.

This year 2016: marks the 350th Anniversary of this massive event.

This dynamic Musical has been written by Auckland muso Graeme John Webber who also wrote the 28 songs and lyrics. Directed by Jacqui Thorpe, costumes by Pat Lott and a live band led by George Bonner. In 3 Auckland Theatres during October: ‘Playhouse’ Glen Eden. ‘Spotlight’ Papatoetoe. ‘Pumphouse’ Takapuna.

From this opening point, the show is full-on, rollicking through marketplace scenes to the devastation of the fire itself, involving the following real-life characters:

* Nell Gwynne – as a vampy burlesque Mistress to King Charles.

* The squabbling Farrinors who owned the Bakery where the fire started in appropriately named “Pudding Lane”.

* Mother Shipton – a scary Fortune-teller - foretold London’s destruction by fire.

* Pompous Lord Mayor Sir Robert Bludworth, oft quoted for his famous line “Pish, a woman could piss it out”.

* The musical includes an actual knighting ceremony of ‘Sir’ Christopher Wren.

* Famous Diarists: Samuel Pepys, and John Evelyn feature.

* Restoration era King Charles 2nd appears in all his finery - plus a surprise awaits involving his ‘alter-ego’.

As well as the above real-life people, the eclectic population of this doomed walled city suddenly - in the middle of the night – 2nd September 1666 – find themselves trapped by a huge conflagration that refuses to stop.

Musical content spans harpsichord period pieces to standout Rock’n’roll.
