Great News for Playhouse Theatre!
Protecting our theatre patrons and wonderful historical building against the elements at the arched entrance of the venue has been been an ongoing problem since the 2003 theatre refurbishment.
Members of Waitakere Playhouse Theatre Trust have been working diligently "behind the scenes" for over a year with planning and negotiations and are now delighted to announce that a grant application to the ASB Community Trust Foundation has been successful and $50,000 has been provided by them plus a further $28,000 has been granted from Trusts Charitable towards the cost of building and installing a full canopy over the front entrance of Playhouse. Waitakere Playhouse Theatre Trust and theatre associates are grateful to both organisations for this wonderful support.
The canopy has been architecturally designed by Twan Peters of ACP Architects in consultation with the Historical Places Trust as Playhouse has a Classification 2 historic building listing.
The glass and minimal, metal-framed canopy will enhance the appearance of the theatre, help protect the theatre's Art Deco frontage and provide shelter down to the bottom of the front steps whilst helping to increase useable area adjacent to the Front of House foyer.
Work on this project has started, so watch out for the developments out front of the Playhouse Theatre.
If you or your company would like to help support future theatre development projects , please contact Waitakere Playhouse Theatre Trust Chairperson, Bev Dixon ph (09) 818 7637 or Theatre Manager, Sheryl Ph (09) 81 5751 (theatre office) or 021 215 1271
